Mobile kitchen to give support

TEMBISA – Sasol Energy donated a mobile kitchen to Marhulana Primary School to assist in the school's feeding scheme.

Sasol Energy visited Marhulana Primary School in Tembisa on 12 June to donate a mobile kitchen that will support the school’s feeding scheme.

In a statement, the company said the facility would assist to improve child nutrition and thus education by providing learners with healthy meals, which will contribute to their brain function and concentration. It would also provide a safe and protected storage facility for the school’s feeding scheme utensils, equipment and product supplies.

Sasol executive vice president, Maurice Radebe said, “It is often stated that a healthy mind and body are the basic requirements for individuals’ growth and development.

“Our brains consume more energy than any other organ in the body, so a healthy mind requires nutritional meals to support optimal performance.”

The choice of the school, as well as the donation of the kitchen was made possible through partnerships. Radebe came in contact with the school through his participation in the Partners for Possibilities ExecsBack2School programme.

Additionally, this groundbreaking initiative invites top executives from across SA’s major companies to swap time in the office for time engaging with school principals.

The programme describes itself as a co-action, co-learning partnership between school principals and business leaders, enabling social cohesion through partnerships, and empowering principals to become leaders of change in their schools and communities.

As part of its engagements with the school, Sasol Energy conducted a needs assessment in late 2018, identifying nutrition and career advice as among the school’s most pressing needs.

Marketing and public affairs senior manager, Christopher Kabosha added, “We have worked with a number of schools across the country and the initiative basically aims to encourage learners to remain committed to education and improve their nutrition by providing healthy meals.”

The school’s principal Sarah Mahlagare said, “We want to help our learners every day, particularly those who come from very difficult circumstances.

“Our school is a place of stability for them, where they can learn, play and also get a meal.

“Sasol Energy’s contribution to the school will go a long away and support our mandate as a community-based school in Tembisa. I cannot express how incredibly important this contribution is.”
