Non-profit organisation helps local community

MIDRAND – Ivory Park residents were thrilled after an NGO donated 50 pair of school shoes and food parcels to the community.

A non-profit organisation, Life 4 U Foundation, conducted a Child Protection Week outreach initiative by donating school shoes and food parcels to the needy in Ivory Park Ext 2 on 7 June.

The aim was to raise awareness about child abuse and educate the community to observe and protect the rights of children as well as to counter and tackle the scourge of child abuse.

The foundation’s project manager, Simon Molekwa said, “As an organisation, working with children is one of our main concern as we usually witness or hear stories where men and parents abuse their children on a daily basis. Hence, our organisation calls for every man or parents to stand up against child abuse and learn how to take care of their own children.”

The event targeted parents at their homes as the foundation engaged with them concerning the issue of child abuse. Parents were encouraged to always acknowledge the rights of children, protect them and always monitor their behaviour. Molekwa added that the community should always be watchful and report parents who abuse their children to the authorities.

Chairperson for the foundation Mpho Mofokeng said, “We would like to thank the community for their continuous support to our programmes, we would also like to thank Ashley Rapala known as DJ Shimza and his team for assisting us towards donations.”

The community members were thrilled to receive the donations. Resident Xolelwa Muluh added, “On behalf of the community, I would like to thank the foundation for showing us love and generosity. As parents, we are so thankful and really appreciate it.”

Mofokeng concluded by thanking those involved. “We would also like to express appreciation to our main sponsor, Iwisa Maize Meal, for always donating towards our feeding schemes, however, the organisation is still appealing for donations and continuous support from the community.”
