Alleged rapist killed by mob justice

IVORY PARK – In light of a recent incident, police have warned community members against taking the law into their own hands.

Three men were caught by community members allegedly gang-raping two girls, aged 14 and 18, in an informal settlement of Ivory Park on Saturday night (15 June).

According to Gauteng police spokesperson, Colonel Lungelo Dlamini, a community member reportedly witnessed the incident and called on other community members, who apparently took matters into their own hands by confronting the alleged rapists

Dlamini said that out of the three men, the two alleged rapists escaped, leaving the other one at the mercy of the community. The alleged rapist was caught, castrated and killed by angry community members.

“Police are also following leads to arrest two other suspects who managed to escape from the community members who tried to apprehend them at the scene of gang rape,” he said.

A murder case has been opened against the community members responsible for the mob justice carried out on the man, however, no arrests have been made yet.

Colonel Dlamini added that according to the information they have, the two girls were apparently walking to Lindokuhle informal settlement when they were confronted by the suspects who were armed with a knife and a firearm. The suspects then raped the two girls over and over again.

In light of this incident, police are warning members of the community against taking the law into their own hands.
