Christ Church Preparatory celebrates isiZulu

MIDRAND – Christ Church Preparatory hosted a special isiZulu evening.

The Christ Church Preparatory community got together to celebrate isiZulu on 23 May.

Spokesperson for the school Zeenath Sathiah said, “We hope that an evening like this will lead to learners having a greater appreciation of Zulu culture. Since isiZulu is the most spoken African language in South Africa, we decided it fitting to host a isiZulu evening during Africa Month.”

The school auditorium was decorated with ornaments and learners dressed in traditional Zulu attire, while various foods and drinks such as magwinya (vetkoek), sweet potato and Mageu, were served to celebrate Zulu culture.

Sathiah added, “The evening consisted of poems, plays, songs, dancing and bible readings in isiZulu. Our emcee for the evening Marietjie Bothma, a multicultural TV personality, kept our audience entertained with her humour and her ability to speak fluently in isiZulu.”
