Ivory Park police on the lookout for murder and rape suspect

IVORY PARK – The police call on the local community for information on a rape and murder suspect.

The Ivory Park police are calling on the local community for information that will assist in their arrest of a rape and murder suspect.

A spokesperson for the Ivory Park Police Station Captain Bernard Matimulane said the incident took place on 10 May in the late afternoon. “It was reported that the young couple went out for late afternoon prayer at an isolated place in Clayville’s Ext 45, and on their way back they were confronted by an armed man who ordered them to lie down.”

Once the armed suspect had tied the victims up he demanded money and cell phones from them, but they had none.

The suspect instructed the female victim, aged 16, to strip down and proceeded to rape her. When the male victim pleaded with the suspect to not harm her, the suspect fired two shots at him with one shot striking him in the upper back. The male victim died on the scene.

Matimulane said, “The only piece of available information is that the suspect may be in his early 30s. Our officers are doing all the necessary detection to establish who this person may be based on the description given to them.

“They are, however, appealing to any member of the public to come forward with information should they get wind of who the person responsible for this reprehensible act is.”

Station Commander Brigadier David Mbongeni Ngcobo said, “The isolated spot where this incident took place is a perennial headache for the police and we keep cautioning people on prayer missions or any ritual or even some couples who like such spots, to be extra careful.”
