Christ Church Preparatory School choir belt it out at music fest

MIDRAND – The Christ Church Preparatory School senior choir took part in Michaelhouse's annual festival of music.

The Christ Church Preparatory School choir took part in the Michaelhouse Festival of Music in KwaZulu-Natal.

The school was the only one from outside the province to attend the festival and were specially invited for the second year in a row. The choir is comprised of the school’s senior preparatory learners between grades 4 and 6.

A spokesperson for the school Zeenath Sathiah said, “Our learners gave an excellent performance, which is a testament to their hard work in preparation for the event. Practice started at the beginning of this year, with three rehearsals per week, as well as three workshops and performances at our school.”

She added, “Our learners got to experience a different setting being in KwaZulu-Natal, and they also visited uShaka Marine World, the Capture Site and Piggly Wiggly. This tour was team building for the choir and exposed them to other school choirs and musicians.”

Choir conductor Elissa Lessing said that her aim was not only for the children to excel in choir and music, but also to become well-rounded individuals, and she, therefore, felt the need for the tour.

“Lessing definitely sees a difference in the choir in that it has grown in numbers and in passion for music. She would, however, like to see a greater appreciation for the arts from the community,” Sathiah said.

Preparatory school principal William McKee concluded, “We are very proud of our choir who continue to exceed our expectations.”
