JMPD warns of job scam

JOHANNESBURG – The JMPD spokesperson advised that all legal JMPD adverts will appear in daily newspapers and not on social media.

The Johannesburg Metro police has warned the public against bogus social media adverts after three suspects were caught soliciting R300 payments for ‘fake’ JMPD jobs.

Spokesperson for the Metro police Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar said the trio, two females and a male, were caught in the act by the Metro police at their offices in Pritchard Street, Johannesburg on 7 March. “JMPD officers who were on duty outside court in Pritchard Street received a complaint from three youngsters who alleged that they had each paid R300 to three individuals for JMPD jobs but did not get receipts,” said Minnaar.

The officers went to the suspects’ address to investigate. “The officers went to the suspects’ office and caught them red-handed as they were about take R300 from another victim.”

Minnaar said victims were lured through a ‘fake advertisement’ on social media which offers a vacancy at Metro police that does not exist. Despite the three suspects arrest, the bogus adverts have been viral on social media. “All legal JMPD adverts will appear in daily newspapers and not on social media,” warned Minnaar.
