Lipizzaners bring the best for moms

KYALAMI – Mothers were in for a special treat on Mother's Day with performances by the talented Lipizzaners of the South African Lipizzaner Centre in Kyalami.

Moms were in for a treat this Mother’s Day on 12 May as they watched a series of performances by talented horses at the South African Lipizzaner Centre in Kyalami.

The audience, with guests as old as 93, was greatly impressed with the performance, applauding the Lipizzaners left, right and centre for a show well done.

Camilla Lamb, a junior rider and social media specialist for the centre, said that Sunday’s classical performance was based on the same principles that have been followed for over 40 years, since the first Lipizzaner performances in 1971. “This is how we train the horses, display their talents and level of training.

“In the performance, the young horses are the first to begin. They start off by running free in the arena and then they gradually build up their training.

“As we train them, they go into the new performance items until they eventually end up in the quadrille, which is the highlight of their career.”

The close of the Mother’s Day-themed show had the audience in awe as Erac, the mare, and her three-month-old firstborn filly, Ercz, pranced around the arena in celebration of the day.
