It’s much more than just a game for Christ Church College

MIDRAND – The Christ Church first soccer team took part in a team-building camp.

Christ Church College‘s first soccer team got together for a team-building and training camp as their new season began.

Coach of the team Jarred Katakuzinos said that the camp was an opportunity to train together and also build a cohesive team. “The camp is more about bonding and learning about each other. Giving our team some time before the season starts to spend time together.”

The team spent their time between 2 and 5 May at the Nokuphila Guest Lodge, which is owned by the school. There they lived together and trained on the school grounds. Katakuzinos said the team socialised and was able to discuss their individual goals for the year.

“In terms of our goals, we would like our boys to succeed outside of soccer, including in school and family life. It’s not only about soccer but the team gives them a brotherhood that lets them know that they have a group of people behind them for anything. We want them to improve as men.”

The team is also made up of players from various grades, with five new players in the team, who benefit from the camp and who are being welcomed into the team.

Deputy head of sports Reece Prinsloo said, “We want to create a family on and off the field among these 15 boys. We don’t want soccer to be the primary reason they are together – it’s a positive support base.”
