[VIDEO] Victim of an attempted hijacking in Vorna Valley speaks out

MIDRAND – Provincial police spokesperson, Captain Mavela Masondo confirmed that a case of attempted hijacking has been opened.


An attempting hijacking was captured on CCTV on Albertyn Street, Vorna Valley, Midrand on 11 May. 

In the video three suspects, two of them armed can be seen in a Blue Hyundai Creta quickly ambushing a driver in an Audi, whose quick reaction catches the hijackers off guard.

Gauteng Provincial spokesperson, Captain Mavela Masondo said a case of attempted hijacking has been opened, “Two suspects were seen and no arrests have been made yet, an investigation is continuing.”

He added that there were three victims in the car.

Mellisa Mel Worman who was one of the victims of the incident commented on Intelligence Bureau SA Facebook page, “I am the victim of this incident and my family and I are grateful for everyone’s support. SAPS, CPF and community patrollers alike as well.”

She explained that during the incident, her husband was armed but decided not to use his firearm. She explained how they managed to get away, “We always put the car in reverse as soon as we hit the driveway. There was no getting out of this any better than what we did.”

Worman added that they hope they could post the second and third cameras that captured the damage that the car went through during their escape but was not able to.
