Substance abuse a major concern in Rabie Ridge

RABIE RIDGE – The Rabie Ridge Police are concerned by the influence of drugs on numerous crimes.


Rabie Ridge police made more than 60 arrests for alcohol and substance abuse in March.

The spokesperson for the Rabie Ridge Police Station Captain Mofana Masela said they were concerned at the number of crimes committed due to substance abuse.

He added, “In March more than 50 suspects were arrested for drunk driving, more than 10 suspects were arrested for dealing in drugs such as dagga and mandrax, and more than 20 suspects were arrested for possession of drugs.”

Masela said five robbery and three sexual assault cases were committed with the root causes being substance abuse. There was also a high volume of cases of assaults which mostly occurred in homes where there had been substance abuse.

“The station is appealing to the community to work together with the police to bring these instances under control.”
