#IMadeMyMark: Here’s what the Midrand SPCA hopes for this year’s elections

MIDRAND – The Midrand SPCA weighed in on the upcoming elections.

Caxton Local Media has recently launched its #IMadeMyMark campaign and the Midrand Reporter spoke to staff members at the Midrand SPCA. Members shared their views on what they expect from the national elections and their views on voting.

General manager of the Midrand SPCA, Pam Pretorius said that going to vote is an extremely important task that should be taken seriously by residents. She said, “Voting and being an active citizen is about taking control, and making the change that you want to see on the ground and being active in the local community.”

She added that the SPCA forms part of a greater grouping of welfare organisations that assist local communities like the Child Welfare among others. “The primary outcome we would like to see after the election, as a welfare organisation, is a government who would be able to assist or subsidise our efforts and the mission we have.”

A worker at the Midrand SPCA Hendrick Makitla said, “I think voting is very important for everyone to get involved. But it’s quite confusing. At the end of it, I would like whoever wins to get involved in the community.”

Operations assistant at the organisation Renny Malapela said, “I think to vote is a good way to have a voice. But I want whoever wins to get involved further in organisations like the SPCA who do a lot of work without a lot of help from the government. We do a lot like education and inspecting, we want to do it more because we don’t get the support.”

Inspector Jerry Seemise said, “I think it is very important to vote, but I feel there are things that never come out of it. Sometimes there is no motivation to vote.”
