Joburg Water delivers mobile chemical toilets in informal settlements in Ivory Park
IVORY PARK – Mayor Herman Mashaba said he is aware that chemical toilets are a key service but they are not the long term solution.
Johannesburg Water delivered 61 mobile chemical toilets for residents living in Phumula Mqashi and Violet Chauka information settlements in Ivory Park on 25 April.
Executive Mayor Herman Mashaba said sanitation is very important to ensure human dignity, quality of life and is pivotal in fighting against poverty and inequality.

The mayor said that people living in an informal settlement usually do not have access to basic sanitation services, however, since 2017 Joburg Water has handed over 10 400 chemical toilets to residents of the city as part of their strategic plan to provide sanitation in informal settlements.
” I am aware that chemical toilets, although they do provide key service to communities in need, are not a long term solution.”
The ablution facilities will service 300 households in the community and the facilities will be maintained and serviced by Joburg Water.
