Christ Church go all out for literacy week

MIDRAND – Christ Church school celebrated literacy week through a host of fun and education activities.


Christ Church Preparatory School was abuzz with activities during Literacy Week.

The week took place between 25 March and 1 April with the focus of hosting a variety of activities throughout the week that centred on the promotion of reading.

Led by the school’s head of English Janine Vorster, the learners took part in daily lessons which emphasised the importance of literacy and story-telling workshops to learn about writing technique in their favourite books.

Spokesperson for the school Zeenath Sathiah said learners from all grades were entertained by Hooked on Books, a travelling theatre company which dramatises the action within some of the greatest children’s books.

She added, “During English periods our pupils learnt to design posters which promoted reading, write and illustrate their own stories and had panel discussions on the importance of reading.”

At the end of the week the learners had the opportunity to dress up as their favourite characters from books.
