Rabie Ridge youth come together

RABIE RIDGE – A important discussion on peer pressure was hosted at the Rabie Ridge Community Hall.

The Rabie Ridge Police Station attended a community youth discussion alongside other organisations to discuss ‘peer pressure‘.

The event was organised by community organisation Youth on Track with support from the Rabie Ridge Community Policing Forum and Police Station. The event saw a discussion between 300 young people in the area and organisations such as the Amatshitshi Empela virgin group and Sanca.

Spokesperson for the Rabie Ridge Police Station Captain Matsobane Masela said that the primary discussion focused on peer pressure and its link to various social ills.

He said that the community meeting gave young people the opportunity to talk about the issues such as substance abuse and sexual assault while in discussion with advocacy groups.

“Going forward, the youth are embarking to raise awareness on these issues across the community.”

All in attendance were given a speech by Station Commander of the Rabie Ridge Police station Colonel Johana Ngoma who called for all young people to be closely involved with the police in crime prevention and become safety promoters in the area.

She thanked all participants on the day and the Community Policing Forum for spurring on the discussion.
