Local seniors are invited to join the Vorna Valley Social Club

VORNA VALLEY – The senior citizens of Vorna Valley are calling fellow seniors to join their social club.

The senior citizens of Vorna Valley are calling out all their fellow seniors to join them in a club that is specifically made for them – the Vorna Valley Social Club, founded and established in August last year.

The main objectives of the club are to promote good fellowship and well-being amongst their members; to protect the interests, health, welfare and other needs of senior citizens living in and around the Midrand area; and to promote and provide social and recreational activities to their members by incorporating indoor and outdoor activities and excursions.

The first thing the seniors do on their weekly get-togethers is open with a prayer and then get down to the nitty gritty’s of their meeting.

This is when they plan events they would like to have and catch-up on the weekly activities that they each got up to.

The group describes the club as being vibrant, social and more like family above everything else. Their social activities include Christmas parties, Diwali parties, going out on trips, Valentine’s Day events and going on park outings.

The club also has a catering team in charge of making sure that there is food after a long day of activities.

Club members pay R50 a month as a contribution to the various events and excursions and the club operates for 10 months per year.

Members meet every Sunday at Halfway House Primary School from 1pm to 5pm. The social club is inviting all residents in and around the Midrand area between the ages of 55 and older who have a South African identity document to apply for membership at the club.

Currently, their youngest member is 57 and the oldest is over 80.

Public relations officer, Dhana Archery, said, “We just need senior citizens who are between the ages of 55 and upwards as this group is mainly for us who are slightly older, no grandchildren to take of and be away from our daily tasks.”
