Police seize stolen high-tech televisions worth thousands in Glen Austin

GLEN AUSTIN – Police are on the hunt for more suspects as more stolen goods are still missing.


The Midrand police arrested two male suspects who they believe to be part of a truck hijacking gang, they are confident that four other suspects travelling in vehicles fitted with blue lights will be arrested soon.

The investigation recovered stolen high-tech televisions ranging from 40cm to 126cm screen at a business plot in Glen Austin, Midrand on 1 April.

Midrand Police Station have confirmed that cases of truck hijacking and possession of suspected stolen goods, a television and a truck, are being investigated.

The two suspects arrested are due to appear at the Midrand Magistrate’s Court in the next 48 hours.

Metro police intercepted the truck in the Glen Austin after it was hijacked in Kempton Park. As they closed in on the truck driver, he revealed the premises of where the goods were being unloaded.

An investigation is underway and police are following up on several leads to recover more stolen goods that are still missing and more suspects still at large.

Police have pleaded to the public to come forward with any information about the whereabouts of the suspects. They can contact Crime Stop on 08600 101111.

Gauteng Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mawela applauded the co-operation of the law enforcement agencies in dealing with criminal activities and making sure that those who are responsible are brought to book.
