According to Metro police Chief David Tembe they deployed about 150 officers on overtime during load-shedding to alleviate traffic in certain hotspots.
Eskom implemented nationwide load-shedding for nearly two weeks. At one point Stage 4 rotational load-shedding was initiated for consecutive days.
Tembe said he decided to deploy Metro police officers at multiple insections during load-shedding especially at peak hour times to minimise congestion.

Tembe said it was the first time that the Metro police had ever done such deployment and they tried to ensure that motorists were not inconvenienced. He added that load-shedding hampered their manpower and compromised other law enforcement issues at hand.
Metro police also presented their crime statistics for the month of February at the council of chamber. The most arrests were for driving under the influence with more than 500 arrests. Below are the statistics.
