A new success for New Jerusalem

MIDRAND – The New Jerusalem Children's Home is celebrating the progress on their new Lanto Montessori primary school.

New Jerusalem Children’s Home is celebrating the completion of phase two in the construction of their primary school building.

The spokesperson for the home Raymond Madibogo said the school building was an extension of the Lanto Montessori School which serves New Jerusalem’s children.

The home was established in 2000 and takes care of children who have been abandoned. Madibogo added, “The home gives a child that has nothing, the opportunity to have it all. So it was started to take in children with social and medical struggles and give them the opportunity to grow with hope.”

He added that as time went on, the home decided to give the children an extra edge and began the Lanto Montessori School project on the premises to provide holistic education to prepare the children for the outside world. The children currently play and learn in a temporary structure and since March last year, the home through the help of donors and financial assistance has been building the primary school.

“It will give them freedom of movement to have an active learning environment when completed.

“The completion of the roof has given us great relief as we can now move to the next phase which will include the finishing of the floors, plumbing, and plastering.

“The roof was key because without the roof you don’t have a building. So with it done, we can move on to various other areas of focus.”

The head of education at the home Louis Difo said, “We feel that the construction is going well but we will need more support to finish very soon.

“We have children at our preschool who will need to go to the primary school and it will give them the education they deserve.”

The managing director of the home Anna Mojapelo said the primary school would be a ‘pillar of light’ in the children’s life.

She reiterated that the school was in need of a lot of help to finish construction including plumbing, floor decking and painting among other things.

She concluded that she hoped to give the children the foundation education that they needed and have the school opened by Africa Day this year.

The New Jerusalem Children’s Home is still looking for funding to complete the project and is calling on the local community to help with any assistance.
