Ivory Park police shocked by mob killing

IVORY PARK – The Ivory Park Police Station is investigating a case of murder following a mob killing by local community members.

The Ivory Park police are shocked at the recent brutal mob killing of a robbery suspect that took place on 14 March.

The incident took place in Ivory Park’s Ext 9. Spokesperson for the station Captain Bernard Matimulane said, “It is alleged that shortly before he was killed, the deceased entered a residence in the area and stole a plasma TV.”

When the suspect left he ran into the owner of the residence. The deceased allegedly took out a firearm and shot the homeowner in the leg before fleeing the scene.

Matimulane added, “By then the community had already gotten wind of what was happening and gave chase. He was assaulted with everything the community members could lay their hands on, and he succumbed to his injuries at the scene.”

The firearm allegedly found in the deceased’s possession was handed over to the Ivory Park police. He was identified as a 35-year-old male from the Emmangweni Section of Tembisa.

Station Commander of the Ivory Park Police Station Brigadier David Ncgobo said, “As much as we are faced with crime on a daily basis, my appeal to the community of this area is that we must desist from taking the law into our hands as some innocent people may end up dying during these mob-induced incidents.”

A case of murder has been opened at the police station and the police are currently investigating the incident.
