Allandale substation catches fire
ALLANDALE – The power supply to various suburbs in the Midrand area has been affected.

The Allandale substation near Tembisa has caught fire on 20 March. The cause of the blaze is not known at this stage.
Eskom spokesperson Khulu Phasiwe said technicians have been dispatched to attend the substation. The areas affected by the power outage include Ivory Park and parts of Tembisa.

City Power has since indicated that the power supply to a number of other suburbs is affected. In a tweet, the power entity said, “Preliminary information suggests the transformer that caught fire at Allendale belongs to Eskom. There is currently a total shut down of the substation affecting the following Midrand areas: Rabie Ridge 1, 2, 4, 5. Mayibuye, Commercial Ext 9. Austin View.”

City Power also tweeted that technician were on the scene to determine the cause of the fire and emergency services were putting out the blaze.
Both City Power and @Eskom_SA technicians are on site to determime the cause of the fire. Emergency services are also putting out the fire to allow investigators to come in.
