Summerhill hosts annual gala

MIDRAND – It was a day filled with team spirit when the Summerhill Preparatory School hosted their annual inter-house gala.

The Summerhill Preparatory School had a fun day in the sun at their annual inter-house gala.

The school spokesperson Teressa Oates said the event took place on 2 March.

“The inter-house gala is there to bond all students. It’s not about the winning factor, it’s all about the children getting into the pool. Focused participation, even among students who can’t swim.”

“We are very focused on giving the students the opportunity to take part in everything, whether it be sports or academics.”

The day saw the school’s houses – Falcons, Hawks and Eagles – battle it out in the pool and in spirit. “All the students had a turn to swim at least one race to gain a point for their houses.

The event was then concluded with races between the strongest swimmers.”

After a hard day of competition, the Falcons came out on top winning the spirit trophy and the gala.

One of the highlights of the day came from Grade 7 Eagles swimmer Diego De Sousa who broke the school’s record in the open boys’ butterfly. “He beat the previous time of 00:18:55 with a new record time of 00:17:76,” Oakes concluded.
