Grade 6 book lovers meet author

MIDRAND – The Christ Church Preparatory learners took a special visit to attend Jeff Kinney Meltdown World Tour.

The Christ Church Preparatory‘s media centre monitors took a special trip to attend the Jeff Kinney’s The Meltdown tour! on 5 March.

The one-hour show was hosted at the City Life Centre in Lonehill and gave the learners the opportunity to interact with the author of the best-selling novel Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Jeff Kinney. The author is touring through South Africa as he shares his experiences in writing the novel and how they link to his own life.

The spokesperson for the school, Zeenath Sathiah, said the learners who attended are media centre monitors and in Grade 6. They wished to be part of the team to help in the school’s library.

She added, “They have various jobs in the media centre, the most important being helping to shelve books that have been returned and keeping the shelves tidy so that the rest of the school can find books they are looking for with ease.”

The media centre monitors area made up of learners at the school who have a love of reading and the school sent them to the event as a treat for their help in the library.

Librarian at the school Loren Frost said, “It was an amazing experience for the pupils. Each of them got to meet Jeff and have a book autographed by him. He told them all about his writing and some of his life experiences too.”

Frost added, “They also learnt how to draw Greg Heffley, the main character. It was a great opportunity to be able to meet a world-renowned author.”
