Get police clearance for your staff – captain urges

SANDTON – The Sandton police encourage residents to be proactive in crime prevention and explain how to get police clearance for your domestic employees

Being proactive about crime prevention helps you to ensure the safety of your family and household, said Captain Granville Meyer of the Sandton Police Station.

“In the interest of preventing housebreaking and robberies, Sandton police urge residents to [get] police clearances for their domestic workers, including gardeners and occasional workers.

“Please note: This is not a purge by the police. The object is to help residents in crime prevention and it is recommended that all employees be vetted and a police clearance obtained.”

Getting clearance for your employees is entirely optional, and the employer must decide whether to follow this recommendation.

If you do wish to get clearance on your staff, this is what is required:

• A valid identity document or passport of the person you want clearance for

• Payment of a fee of R114 ( a receipt for this will be issued by police)

• Employee to come to the police station for fingerprints.

Results take approximately four to six weeks as it is processed in Pretoria.
