Murderer convicted for 30 years for stabbing dead his girlfriend

IVORY PARK – Ivory Park police welcome 30-year sentence for murderer.

The Station Commander of the Ivory Park Police Station Brigadier David Ncgobo welcomed the conviction of an Ivory Park murderer.

The 27-year-old accused, Vusi Godfrey Mahlangu, was given a 15-year sentence in the Tembisa Magistrates’ Court on 29 January for the 2017 murder of his 26-year-old girlfriend and a neighbour, according to the spokesperson for the Ivory Park police Captain Bernard Matimulane.

He was given another 15 years for the attempted murders of three other people including his girlfriend’s cousin and two neighbours in Ext 2 in Ivory Park.

Mahlangu believed his girlfriend was cheating on him. He first attacked his girlfriend’s neighbour who died a few days later in hospital. Later, he came back to his girlfriend’s home to find her sitting with three other men. The suspect stabbed all of them and fled from the area.

Police spent six months searching for the suspect and arrested him in Orange Farm. He was in police custody during the trial with all bail attempts denied.

His 30-year sentence will run concurrently.

“Hopefully these sentences will assist the affected families in finding the closure they so deserve,” said Ngcobo.

He congratulated the lead investigator in the matter, Detective Constable Edmond Lebopo. “With people such as Constable Lebopo, the detective service in Ivory Park is destined for greater successes,” added Ngcobo.
