Joburg Water says it’s working hard to maintain water supply during load-shedding

JOBURG – Joburg Water warned that load-shedding does effect water supply in some areas.

As load-shedding continues, Johannesburg Water is working with City Power to ensure that residents do not have water shortages as well.

On Wednesday, Joburg Water warned that during the power outages some areas may be affected by water outages or low water supply.

MMC for Environmental and Infrastructure Services councillor Nico de Jager, explained that Johannesburg’s water utility uses electricity to pump water from the reservoirs into towers and is still in the process to place mobile generators during load-shedding to avoid water cuts.

De Jager added that he has met with Joburg Water and City Power to negotiate ways that will help minimise the impact on water towers when load shedding is implemented.

Both Joburg Water and City Power will communicate when water levels are low at certain towers. It will then be the task of City Power to ensure that power supply is restored to that specific area.

Level one water restrictions are still in place, residents have been urged to continue to use water wisely.
