Blue Hills continues to suffer from power failures

BLUE HILLS – Ward 112 councillor, Madeleine Hicklin visited the substation causing power failures in Blue Hills.

Update, 15 February, 15.30pm:

According to Ward 112 councillor, Madeleine Hicklin, “A new cable has been installed and fully tested.” Power should be 100 per cent restored by 5pm.

City Power has apologised for the inconvenience.

Intital report, 15 February, 2pm:

According to Ward 112 councillor, Madeleine Hicklin, “There was a power failure in Blue Hills, which may have been a result of load-shedding adding strain to the grid.”

Hicklin said the area’s electricity is supplied by Eskom not City Power and the fault has been escalated.

She visited the substation and said, “They turned it back on then it tripped again. Turns out its cable theft towards Blue Hills side while they were working.”

She added that the power crisis in Blue Hills is still ongoing because there is not much City Power can do, as Eskom is a government-owned entity and not a local municipality entity.

Hicklin also mentioned that there is also a major fault that has affected 5th Road and Harry Gaulan Drive in Harry Gardens, adding that City Power is still working to restore the power in that area.
