Teen seeks funds for school

MIDRAND – Siyabonga Masemola, who is a beneficiary of the New Jerusalem Children's Home has a dream to study law.

Education is all 19-year-old Siyabonga Masemola needs. Siyabonga, who is a beneficiary of the New Jerusalem Children‘s Home has a dream to study law. His dream could become a reality if he could get funding to further his studies.

“It would mean so much for me to get funding for school,” said Siyabonga.

“The fact is I am a child protected under laws, eventually I want to help other children under the same laws as I am.”

Siyabonga was placed at the home at the tender age of eight. New Jerusalem’s public relations and communications manager Raymond Madibogo said Siyabonga wants to change his life for the better.

“In the year 2018, the young man was doing Grade 12,” said Madibogo.

“His hard work and dedication to bettering his life and making a difference saw him passing and obtaining a national senior certificate.”

Not only did Siyabonga pass but he scored good marks which allows him to study toward a bachelor’s degree.

Madibogo added that it was ‘good news and worth all the celebrations to see a young man give it so much, irrespective of his social background’.

The home has knocked on several universities’ doors in a bid to get Siyabonga into a higher institution of learning.

“It is getting difficult, day by day to see the pain in his eyes every time he comes back home from the university without any success,” said Madibogo.

“Private institutions cost about R89 900 per year, excluding accommodation and any other needs for a student to effectively study,” he added.

“Should he not get into a university, the social welfare system will no longer recognise him as a child in need of a place of safety and or social support.”
