Suspects at large following cash-in-transit heist in Tembisa

TEMBISA – An unknown number of suspects bombed and robbed a cash-in-transit vehicle in Tembisa.

The police are currently on the lookout for suspects involved in a cash-in-transit heist that took place in Tembisa on 28 January.

Provincial spokesperson of the police, Colonel Brenda Muridili, said the incident occurred at about 6.30pm when a cash-in-transit vehicle was collecting money at one of their clients in Hospital View on TJ Namane Drive.

She added, “As they left, an unknown number of assailants approached and shot at the vehicle.”

Muridili said when the driver and his colleagues attempted to climb out the vehicle to return fire, the suspects pointed guns at them and they were disarmed.

She said the suspects proceeded to blow up the vehicle and fled with an undisclosed amount of money and the victims’ firearms.

Muridili added that another concerning issue following the incident was that it was alleged that bystanders began to pick up money after the vehicle was blown up.

“We want to let the community know that this is a crime. And if they are found with money taken from the scene of a cash-in-transit heist they will be arrested and charged.”
