Services have been restored in Midrand after being suspended due to protest

MIDRAND – Residents allegedly stormed in the Region A offices demanding houses and threatened council officials in Rabie Ridge, Ivory Park, Ebony Park and Mayibuye.

Services have been restored in Midrand following a shutdown due to residents’ protest on 24 January.

Residents allegedly stormed in the Region A offices demanding houses and threatened council officials in Rabie Ridge, Ivory Park, Ebony Park and Mayibuye.

City officials were also instructed and forcefully removed from their offices by protesters who entered the building, demanding that services be discontinued for the day amid the protests.

The MMC for Finance, Funzela Ngobeni, said that he learnt f the incident with great shock and regret. “It is believed that the main reason behind this violent behaviour is the demand for houses in the area. Business was suspended for the day and management was attending to the issues of safety concerning our employees,” said Ngobeni.

However, on 25 January, the following day, the situation had returned back to normal.

“The situation is back to normal and services have been restored,” said stakeholder manager at the office of the MMC of Finance, Kutlwano Olifant.
