‘Let’s grow Ward 80 together’ – Councillor Pagadi

MIDRAND – Residents are encouraged to grow Ward 80 together.

Residents of Ward 80 in Rabie Ridge are on a mission to keep their community clean.

On 17 January, Councillor Makgoba Pagadi launched a clean-up campaign in the streets of Rabie Ridge and the surrounding areas.

“We were embarking on a twice a month cleaning campaign,” said Pagadi. “We have started by cleaning all illegal dumping at Parliament Street at Ext 4 in Rabie Ridge.”

Community members, Midrand Pikitup depot, environmental health and the South Africa Civic Organisation were among the parties involved in the operation.

The acting regional director of Region A, Hlobohang Gamede emphasised that the region is dedicated to provide the community with a clean, healthy and safe environment. “We call on the community to refrain from illegal dumping and assist Pikitup by disposing of household waste on the assigned days only.”

Ward committee member responsible for infrastructure and services, Hilda Mhlongo, has urged the community to take responsibility for their communities.

“Our theme for this year is: Let’s grow Ward 80 together. We encourage our community to help the councillors in keeping the community clean.”

The following activities were conducted during the clean-up operation:

• Unblocking of kerb inlets along Hlanganani Street in Rabie Ridge Ext 4 and Hlanganane Street in Ext 5

• Clearing of dumping hotspots along Parliament and Church streets, Sophia informal settlement and Lerato Street in Ext 5

• Litter picking along Parliament Street

• Conducting health inspections and by-law education at spaza shops and the Sophia informal settlement.
