10 suspects arrested in Midrand

MIDRAND – Suspect attempted to bribe a police officer with a R100 note.

Efforts by the Midrand Police Station to eradicate crime have yielded much-needed results.

According to the spokesperson Sergeant Matome Tlamela, 10 suspects, in separate incidents, were arrested for various crimes including bribery, possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition and possession of suspected stolen property.

On 11 January, at around 6pm on-duty police officers received a complaint from radio control of a fire close to Alsatian Road in President Park.

Upon arrival, the police found five suspects who were apprehended by security guards for theft. Copper cables of an unknown value were found in a nearby dustbin. Tlamela suspects that the fire was used to cover up the copper cable theft.

In separate incidents on the same day, three more suspects were arrested for bribery.

At around 4pm, a traffic officer stopped two vehicles that had many defects on the corner of the R562 and Old Pretoria Road.

The suspects attempted to bribe the officer with an undisclosed amount of money; he was arrested.

In another incident, a traffic officer stopped a vehicle on the corner of the R562 and Old Pretoria Road in Randjespark.

While he was being questioned about the vehicle’s unroadworthiness, the suspect allegedly attempted to bribe the officer with a R100 note.

Tlamela said motorists who bribe police officers will be arrested. “Please don’t bribe police officers as you will end up facing heavy penalties for your actions if you are found to be at the wrong side of the law. Face it and let the law take its course,”
