Midrand SPCA inspector rescues kitten

MIDRAND – SPCA appeals to the public for support and assistance.

The Midrand SPCA is appealing to the community to help it fund its employee rabies vaccination project.

This is after an employee was injured by a kitten in an attempt to rescue it.

“Inspector Jerry Seemise [of the Midrand SPCA] received a distressed call after hours from a member of the public who resides next to a corporate office building. A small kitten had managed to climb to the top of the rafters and was now stuck at the top of the building,” said the SPCA in a statement.

Unfortunately, the inspector could not access the building, he climbed up to the balcony in order to reach the kitten.

The inspector climbed on the dustbins and used the air-con units to pull himself up onto the top balcony using the window sill as leverage.

He grabbed the scared kitten and made the journey back down. A shaken, but very relieved inspector and kitten were back on solid ground. Inspector Seemise was badly scratched and clawed by the kitten who was very scared.

The SPCA pleaded with the public for support and assistance. “Our staff are over due to have their rabies and tetanus vaccines done again in order to ensure that when they get bitten or scratched, that they don’t end up contracting viruses from animals.

“Rabies is life threatening to humans. The cost for a course is R800 per staff member to have their vaccines done and we have 10 staff members that need their injections. Any donations towards assisting us with these fees would be greatly appreciated,” said the SPCA.

After inspector Jerry attended to his bleeding wounds, he went to check up on the little kitten in the clinic who was enjoying a lovely meal and was thankfully uninjured.
