Severe thunderstorms expected to hit Gauteng this evening

The South African Weather Services has issued a warning of severe thunderstorms in Gauteng for Friday evening.

According to the weather services, there is a 60 percent chance of thundershowers across the province. The showers are thought to hit the southern parts of Gauteng this early evening and spread to the northern parts.

Forecaster Edward Engelbrecht said the weather service was concerned about strong winds that could cause damage.

“We are concerned about large hail and strong gusty winds which will be accompanied by the rain. The severe thunderstorm is expected end tonight,” said Engelbrecht.

Isolated thunderstorms across the province are expected to continue until next week.
