Midrand police welcome the convictions of 32 suspects

MIDRAND – 32 suspects have been convicted for various crimes last month.

Midrand police welcomed the convictions of 32 suspects in November.

According to Midrand police spokesperson Sergeant Matome Tlamela, the crimes include assault, robbery, trespassing and possession of suspected stolen property, shoplifting and fraud.

She said in a recent case, a 35-year-old man was sentenced in the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court to 15 years in prison for an armed robbery committed in Glen Austin last year.

The accused, armed with a firearm, robbed a pedestrian of his cell phone on Alsatian Road. An officer who witnessed the incident, gave chase after the suspect sped off in a vehicle with the item valued at R5 600.

“The cell phone was recovered and handed back to the lawful owner the very same day,” added Tlamela.

Midrand Police Station Commander David Tsotsotso and management have applauded the good work done by officers.

“Midrand police and other law enforcement agencies are working tirelessly, day and night, to ensure that they are arresting suspects committing crimes in our policing precinct,” he said.

“Police will ensure that criminals are secured for court appearances until justice takes its course. Crime does not pay!”
