Police have made headway in removing criminals off Midrand’s streets, which saw the arrest of nine suspects for possession of drugs, suspected stolen vehicle and other goods.
Spokesperson for the Midrand Police Station Sergeant Matome Tlamela said a 27-year-old man was arrested for alleged bribery and being in possession of drugs. A police officer received a tip-off about a man dealing in drugs at a Noordwyk residential complex.
Upon entering the unit, the officer noticed a bag containing a white substance, suspected to be a drug called methcathinone also known as Cat.
The suspect then begged the officer not to arrest him and offered the police officer R200.
The suspected drugs and money were seized for evidence.
On 20 November, the suspect appeared in the Midrand Magistrates’ Court and was released on R2 500 bail. He is expected back in court soon.
In a separate incident, five male suspects between 30 and 40 years old were arrested for suspected possession of stolen property.
While officers were patrolling around Midrand on 20 November, they spotted a white vehicle parked on the side of the road in Halfway House. During a search of the vehicle, eight green industrial batteries and six rolls of electric wire were found in the boot.
Tlamela advised the community that in reporting criminal activity, they play a crucial role in making the justice system more responsive to the needs of society and ensuring offender accountability.
