Grade 6 Carlswald learner to take on Ted Talk stage

CARLSWALD – Think Ahead believes strongly in giving young SA a voice.

Carlswald Preparatory House learner Ayanda Bokaba will this weekend speak at the TED-Ed – the youth and education initiative of TED which believes that ideas have power – event in New York.

Through her topic ‘How criticism affects people’s confidence’, the Grade 6 learner is expected to address overcoming criticism, good or bad.

Ayanda was selected by an education programme, Think Ahead, which runs a TED-Ed Club, to present her topic on the international stage.

Managing director of Think Ahead, Michelle Lissoos, said the youth of South Africa should be given a platform.

“Think Ahead believes strongly in giving young SA a voice. We are excited and cannot wait to her voice from the TED stage.”

The club ran a 13-week public speaking curriculum prepared by TED.

During this weekend’s event, participants will share inspiring performances, participate in hands-on workshops and attend sessions of TED Talks.

The event, which is held annually, is a gathering of learners from around the world ‘designed to amplify the voices of the next generation of TED’.
