30-year-old Ivory Park man cuffed with suspected stolen goods, police search for two other suspects

MIDRAND – The goods had markings of Govan Mbeki municipality.

A man from Ivory Park Ext 14 was arrested for possession of suspected stolen goods following a tip-off by a community member.

The 30-year-old man was seen in the early hours of 1 November by the community member offloading televisions and other items from a vehicle. The community member suspected that the goods may have been stolen and informed the police.

“It was the quick response by police that resulted in the recovery of three televisions, a cell phone and an iPad, whose markings showed that they belonged to the Govan Mbeki Municipality in Mpumalanga,” said the spokesperson for Ivory Park Police Station, Captain Bernard Matimulane.

He added that the suspect was unable to account for the goods and confessed that the items had been stolen during a housebreaking he committed with two accomplices in Leandra, Mpumalanga.

The police are still on the hunt for the two suspects who also reside in Ivory Park.

Station Commander for the Ivory Park Police Station Brigadier David Ngcobo has commended the community’s involvement in assisting the police in fighting crime. “The timely tip-off has resulted in the arrest and recovery of stolen property, and it is a clear example that if people were to be the extended ears and eyes of the police, fighting crime would be a walk in the park.”

The suspect is expected to appear in the Tembisa Magistrates’ Court soon to face a charge of possession of suspected stolen property.
