Ivory Park landlord shot and killed during robbery

MIDRAND – The robbers shot at the door where the landlord was blocking entry.

Station commander for the Ivory Park Police Station Brigadier David Ngcobo has expressed shock at the brutal killing of a local man by a group of robbers.

It is alleged that the 47-year-old victim was killed by one of the six men who shot their way into his home at night on 24 October at about 8pm. The robbers allegedly dragged a tenant, who is a hawker, into the victim’s house and demanded money.

“One of the men allegedly shot at the door, hitting the victim, who was blocking it. Once inside they demanded money from the victim who, upon responding that he had no money, was shot in the chest at close range. He died on the scene,” said Ngcobo.

The robbers then allegedly dragged the tenant into her rented room, assaulted her and threatened to kill her and her child. “That was when they were shown the money, and quickly exited the place,” added Ngcobo.

Ngcobo has called on anyone with information to come forward and assist the police. “I strongly believe that someone may have seen something, considering the fact that the murder and robbery took place while most people were still awake.

“We call upon anyone with information to come forward and assist us in solving this senseless killing of an innocent person,” said Ngcobo.
