Hijacking duo nabbed by Johannesburg Flying Squad and Midrand Police Trio Task Unit

MIDRAND – The suspects collided into a palisade fence and fled on foot.

Two suspects were arrested by the Johannesburg Flying Squad and the Midrand Police Trio Task Unit for hijacking in Noordwyk on 24 October.

The two were part of a group of three men who allegedly hijacked an entrepreneur at gunpoint at 16th Road at about 10.30am.

According to the spokesperson of the Johannesburg Flying Squad, Sergeant Desmond Subramoney, the trio hijacked the man who sells food his Siyaya mini-bus and drove off.

“The victim stopped employees of SBV who were on their way to report for duty and told them what had happened. The employees called the police who immediately responded to the complaint,” said Subramoney.

The police gave chase and the suspects collided into a palisade fence at Cnr Richards Drive and Suttie Avenue in Halfway House. “They got off the vehicle and ran on foot. Police were able to arrest two and one is still on the run. The Midrand Police Trio Task Team found a 9mm unlicensed pistol on the ground during the pursuit,” said Subramoney.

The duo is expected to appear before the Midrand Magistrates’ Court soon.
