Rabie Ridge police nab 3 suspects for kidnapping, murder

MIDRAND – The victim was collecting money for pots he sold when he was allegedly attacked.

Ridge Rabie police arrested three suspects driving in a stolen vehicle who later confessed to the kidnapping and murder of an Egyptian national.

Police were on a visible crime prevention operation on 10 October when they received a tip off about a suspected stolen Toyota Conquest in the area. According to the spokesperson for Rabie Ridge Police Station, Captain Mofana Masela, the officers called for backup and chased after the suspected stolen vehicle.

“The three suspects were arrested and the registration of the vehicle had already been changed to an Eastern Cape registration to make it difficult to trace it,” said Masela.

Masela added that during interrogation the trio confessed to kidnapping Mahmond Khaled Abolelfatah Ahmed, an Egyptian national who was reported missing on 3 October.

The body of the 28-year-old victim was found dumped in a stream in Kaalfontein after his friends and family began to search for him. He had been stabbed with a sharp object in the neck and had been badly assaulted.

“The suspects further confessed that the victim went to Birch Acres on the day of the murder to collect money owed to him for pots he had sold to one of the suspects’ mother. He was allegedly told to return later on the day. However, when he returned, he was allegedly held in the house, assaulted and stabbed to death. They allegedly took his body and dumped it in the stream.”

The suspects also allegedly took a R50 note from the victim.

The three are facing charges of the possession of a suspected stolen vehicle, kidnapping and murder.
