MIDRAND – The vehicle was hijacked in Bramley on 1 September.

Members of the Johannesburg North Cluster made a breakthrough in a hijacking case on Friday evening on Allandale Road in Midrand.

The police members arrested two suspects and recovered a vehicle that had been hijacked in Bramley on 1 September.

Midrand police spokesperson, Sergeant Matome Tlamela, said that at the intersection of Allandale Road and the K101, the occupants from the hijacked vehicle, a Hyundai Getz, are alleged to have started to shoot at the police.

Police then returned shots and the vehicle stopped on Allandale Road near Alsation Road.

“One suspect got out and again shot at [police] members,” said Tlamela.

“The [police] member shot back and the suspect was hit in the stomach.”

The two suspects were arrested and one firearm as well as the hijacked vehicle were recovered.

“The injured suspect was taken to Tembisa Hospital and the vehicle was taken to Ereton,” said Tlamela.

Provincial police spokesperson Captain Mavela Masondo, added that the suspects would appear at the Midrand Magistrates’ Court soon, facing charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm, possession of a hijacked vehicle and attempted murder.

He added that an investigation is underway to determine if the suspects can be linked to other crimes.
