Phambili Recycling Services is inviting schools around Midrand to participate in a campaign which aims at educating children about the process of recycling.
The recently launched campaign targets schools as participants in the separation at source recycling initiative. “As parents, we need to protect our environment from waste for the future of our children,” said Phambili’s Robyn Kater.
Phambili Recycling Services has been contracted by Pikitup to facilitate free, mandatory recycling within the area of Midrand. “By engaging with schools, Phambili aims to take a more holistic approach to recycling by educating the next generation of recyclers and creating an environmentally responsible community around recycling,” said Kater.
On 16 and 17 August, Secret Garden Nursery School and the Modern Montessori schoolchildren had the opportunity to engage in the campaign when officials from Phambili Recycling Services visited the schools. The company had teamed up with Miss Earth finalist Boitumelo Lamola, who has set her sights on promoting a Waste Stops With Me ideology.
“Each school was given a presentation and discussion about the importance of recycling and how easy it is to initiate recycling – not only in a home environment but also in community environments such as schools. The children were avid listeners and were bubbling with questions about where, when and what to recycle,” added Kater.
The company is planning to visit more schools in the following month and engage with children about the future of recycling.
