Woman reported as missing found dead

MIDRAND – A post-mortem revealed that she had been drugged and strangled to death.

An Ivory Park woman who was reported missing has been found at a government mortuary in Germiston.

Itumeleng Matsoabe (23) from Ivory Park Ext 9 was reported to have been kidnapped somewhere in the Esselen Park and Birchleigh North vicinity on 30 July by two unknown people. According to the police, she left home early that evening without informing her family members.

“The investigating officer managed to locate her body at a Germiston government mortuary and she was identified by her family. She was found dead in Tswelopele on 31 July as an unknown person,” said the spokesperson for the Ivory Park Police Station, Captain Bernard Matimulane.

He added that post-mortem results revealed that the victim was drugged and strangled to death. Police are currently investigating a case of kidnapping and murder.

“We are appealing to the public to assist us with the investigation of the murder and kidnapping incident.

“Anyone with information which may be of help may contact the Ivory Park police or nearest police station.”
