Multiple thefts in Midrand

MIDRAND – Two business burglaries, one case of housebreaking and one case of armed robbery have recently been reported in Sector 4, according to the Midrand police.

 

Two business burglaries, a case of housebreaking and an armed robbery were reported to the Midrand Police Station between 31 July and 2 August, according to Constable Thabiso Selowa.

The incidents all occurred in Sector 4, which is made up of Glenferness, Kyalami, Sun Valley and Barbeque Downs and the reported incidents are as follows:

  • A case of armed robbery was reported on 31 July. At about 2.10pm, a female motorist parked her car on Galanthus Street in Kyalami when one black man approached the vehicle and began striking her window with a hammer. After the window broke, a second man pointed a firearm at her and both men demanded she hand over her belongings. The men were driving a gold Toyota Atos with the registration DFY 531 GP, and the victim’s ring, watch, cellphone and handbag (all totalling about R100 000) was stolen.
  • A case of housebreaking and theft was reported on 1 August. In Beaulieu, a man returned home at 6pm to find that his Dell laptop and its bag was missing, worth an estimated R14 000.
  • A business burglary was reported on 2 August. At about 8am a shop employee entered his business on Main Road and found that the shop window had been broken and that a welding machine and grinder had been taken. The items were worth about R2 000.
  • A second business burglary was also reported on 2 August. At some point between 10.30pm on 1 August and 6am on 2 August, a property was broken into on Main Road and two LED TVs, two mountain bikes and two 25-litre cans of paint were stolen from the store. The owner was informed of the theft by the local security guard and about R100 000 worth of goods were taken.
