Ebony Park man sentenced to 15 years for fatally stabbing his friend in the chest

EBONY PARK – The deceased succumbed to his injuries a few days after being admitted to Tembisa Hospital.

A man from Ebony Park was sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment in the Tembisa Magistrates’ Court on 20 July for the murder of his friend.

Enoch Bongani Mathonsi (37) was convicted of murdering Abram Msimango last year after they had an argument. Mathonsi used a table knife to stab Msimango once in the chest. The deceased succumbed to his injuries a few days after being admitted to Tembisa Hospital.

In another murder case earlier this month, Xolani Prince Mdaka (23) from Kaalfontein was also handed a 15-year jail sentence in the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court for fatally stabbing his girlfriend, Moipone Mokgalabone (21) at his house last year.

“The evidence is there for all to see that witnesses are playing a crucial role in assisting us in achieving these convictions,” said the station commander of the Ivory Park Police Station, Brigadier David Ngcobo.

“We call on any member of the community to take note, as failure by key witnesses to rise to the occasion may result in very serious cases being lost. We also want to thank the Ivory Park police detectives for their sterling work.”

Ngcobo further appealed to residents of Ebony Park and Kaalfontein to assist the police in solving a spate of robberies that have taken place in the areas recently.
