Accomplice sentenced to eight years

MIDRAND – Security guard sentenced to five years' effective imprisonment.

Mthuthuzeli Ganjana was sentenced to eight years imprisonment on 3 July by the Midrand Magistrates’ Court on a charge of business breaking and theft.

Three years of his sentence was suspended.

In July last years, a company in Corporate Park North, Midrand, specialising in electronics, was robbed and during the time of the robbery, Ganjana was working as a security guard at the company.

“The suspect was arrested hours after the robbery after his seniors arrived at the warehouse and found that there had been a robbery but Ganjana had not reported the case and had not called the police during his whole night shift,” said Midrand police spokesperson Sergeant Matome Tlamela.

“Ganjana was arrested and taken to the station for questioning, where he voluntarily confessed his part in the robbery, alleging that the robbers had promised him a whole truck full of appliances out of the three trucks that were used for the robbery.

“According to the investigating officer, Detective Constable Jafta Lekhuleni, the security house and the warehouse entrance are parallel to each other therefore it was close to impossible to not see what is happening in the warehouse all the way from the security house.”

The police are looking for three remaining suspects who were involved in the robbery.

“Most of the stolen goods were recovered in Brakpan, thanks to an informer, a day after the incident,” concluded Tlamela.
