Midrand does have a fire truck – Joburg EMS’s Robert Mulaudzi

MIDRAND – Robert Mulaudzi responds to a Facebook comment regarding the shortage of fire engines in the area.

Motorists took to social media to make their voices heard regarding a car that was on fire on the N1 which was apparently unattended for 45 minutes.

The car was engulfed in flames on the N1 between New and Allandale roads in Midrand on 22 June. The Midrand Reporter published the story which you can check out further below.

The incident garnered reactions from the public.

KuRhula Mushwana @MissEdnaChrissy tweeted, “It’s over 45 minutes. We called for help. No one has showed up. The poor service in our country though, it’s shocking. N1 north. Allandale.”

On 24 June, Matthew Collier shared a comment on Midrand Reporter‘s Facebook page which said, “Midrand’s fire trucks are all out of service.”

City of Johannesburg‘s Emergency Medical Services spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi has since responded to this comment.

“Midrand has had a fire engine for the whole of June, but we are in need of a new truck because the old ones regularly require repairs and maintenance, which sometimes creates a problem when it comes to meeting the demand.

“We have sent one truck to Diepsloot and another was dispatched to Ivory Park to assist with the high number of informal settlements in those areas, which tend to need these services very often during winter because of shack fires.”

With regards to the issue of the engulfed car, it is yet to be confirmed as to whether or not emergency services responded to the scene.
