IDP session leads to development in Klipfontein

MIDRAND – MMC Leah Knott has announced Klipfontein will be receiving a new park and recreation project, which will kick-start soon.

Klipfontein residents will soon be benefiting from a new park and recreation project.

This is according to the MMC for Economic Development, Councillor Leah Knott.

“Land ownership for development is a strategic objective for the City. The intended donation of ERF 538 by the owner serves as a golden opportunity to improve the lives of marginalised communities who don’t have the means to access land ownership,” said Knott.

The identified portion of land for the project is, according to Knott, “A critical biodiversity area and is affected by hill-slope seepage wetland. Unfortunately, the wetland prevents heavy structures that require deep foundations such as housing.

“The land is more suitable to be developed into a multi-purpose recreational facility. It would be under the care of City Parks with the Joburg Development Agency undertaking the development and the process of appointing a professional team to complete the design is underway.”

The facility is intended to cater to multi-disciplinary sporting codes, a park, food garden and clinic amongst other things. This project is classified as a Community Based Project (CBP) in response to the community’s request during the Integrated Development Plan session held on 5 April 2017.
