MIDRAND – Midrand police pleased with the court's verdict after three men were sentenced.

Midrand police are pleased with the sentencing of three men in cases that were investigated by their officers.

Two men were sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment after they were found guilty of robbery by the Midrand Magistrates’ Court.

On 3 October last year, Jophat Moyo (33) and Gumba Zoza (37) were arrested for robbery with aggravating circumstances after they robbed an electronics store.

Midrand police spokesperson Sergeant Matome Tlamela.

Midrand police spokesperson Sergeant Matome Tlamela said the two men went into the store pretending they wanted to buy some of the electronic goods on sale but then pulled out firearms and told the store owner and his colleagues to lie down on the floor while they robbed them of their wallets and cameras from the shop.

She added that one of the employees was also assaulted. Three of the perpetrators escaped via the back door while the other two were arrested.

Meanwhile, in the other case, Tempe Mohatla was sentenced to 13 years’ direct imprisonment for murder.

The incident took place on 11 June 2016 in Glen Austin in an open field along Allandale Road. Mohatla fatally stabbed Hlobelo Joseph Masiu with a knife.

“We as the Midrand police are happy that justice has been served because the perpetrators have been brought to book,” concluded Tlamela.
